Still in London...

While I wish I could have stayed up last night, I did get a very exciting text about 4:00 am my time.

In my absence, B has been a wedding task warrior. And I have done very little. It is amazing that it is 10 days away and tomorrow will show up in the 10 day forecast on weather.com. Weather.com is still predicting rain for November 8. However the 12 and 13 are rain as well. Maybe I should buy a pair of Wellies while I am here - just in case. I have always wanted a pair.

We still have not decided on a gospel reading.

Thoughts on marriage...

The political climate being what it is and the recent decree by Governor Patterson has made me realize I shouldn't take for granted the ease as to which we walked into City Hall and got a marriage license.  

June 17, 2007 marked the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court case of Loving v. Virginia.  And on its anniversary, Mildred Loving (the wife of the inter-racial couple) issued this statement: 

"Surrounded as I am now by wonderful children and grandchildren, not a day goes by that I don’t think of Richard and our love, our right to marry, and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the “wrong kind of person” for me to marry. I believe all Americans, no matter their race, no matter their sex, no matter their sexual orientation, should have that same freedom to marry. Government has no business imposing some people’s religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people’s civil rights.

I am still not a political person, but I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about."

B's new job as a pundit

B came up with this tidbit all by himself (it is a dig at Sarah Palin so if you are sympathetic, do not read further or if, you know, you don't have a heart. Hi Hillary - glad you have one). He may be brilliant. I said MAY.

1.5 million US troops have served in Iraq.

As of 2006 Alaska's estimated population was 670,000 or to phrase it another way - if Sarah Palin sent every man, woman and child she has ever governed to Iraq she would still need to find 870,000 people to make up the difference.

If this happens at the wedding...

we have some problems. Mainly the following:
1) I don't know Lucas Haas so making out with him would be awkward
2) I do not have the power to stop time but maybe I do. I would love to have that power, it was always the one I wanted on Charmed.
3) Obviously, this couple has some issues.

More Fun with Videos - Political Ones Not Wedding Ones

Because I just figured out to embed videos on the blog here is one making the rounds of my office (funny that this one is so popular in the office but after the primary I guess not as popular in the whole state).

And since the wedding is a week and a half after election day there is some relevance but very little.

If tugging at emotional heart strings and celebrity endorsements were all you needed. This man would be the next president.

And because I believe in fair and balanced reporting, here is another video - more comical than anything. Keep in mind that "fair and balanced" is subjective and I am totally biased to the blue color of politics.

Super Tuesday

I promise I will get back to wedding stuff soon (updates about the merging of our lives that sent me into a tizzy last weekend). It is just that a lot of non-wedding things have been going on. Namely, ass kicking in Arizona and now Super Tuesday. B has already voted and I hope to get out of work in time to vote in the primary. The annoying thing is that my polling place has been changed and it is kind of far for someone without a car.

Vote early, vote often!

As a side note: Today is Fat Tuesday which means tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. I am giving up coffee for Lent. If you see me this weekend, be kind as I have learned from watching "Celebrity Rehab" that withdrawal is a bitch.
