If we went with the original date...

...we would be married by now.

However, we would be drenched. According to B's mom it is pouring in Brooklyn. Also, weather.com is now saying sun for November 15. So we will see.

We have the infamous Notre Dame game tonight and all day we have been crossing things off the list. Everyone has been assigned a table and we are almost done with the placecards. I had a minor snafu but it is all minor and completely fixable. Tomorrow hopefully programs will be printed and folded and the dress arrives home.

I have yet to have a real breakdown but it may be coming. Or not.

We head to NYC late Wednesday night. Monday and Tuesday will be busy with actual work since we won't be back in the office until December 1.

Third time is a charm...

Well going to watch the game at BSG didn't work (2006) and watching it with my brother Richie didn't work (2007) but watching it at home did (2008). BC beat ND last night to become the 2008 Men's Hockey National Champions.

I will be the first one to say that I thought they looked like crap the first half of the season and that John Muse was horrible (I was a BIG Schneider fan). But I was wrong.

Off to BC...

Anxiously off to BC for day one of our pre-marital counseling...

Just enough time...

There is just enough time to go to pre-cana, have it run late, go grocery shopping and watch the NCAA men's hockey final on Saturday. BC won tonight 6-1 meaning that this will be their third consecutive trip to the finals. Let's hope this one is a win.

And my mind is not in that bad of a place

In my original post about pre-cana I mentioned that I may be in a "I hate BC and everything about the school and I hope they lose in whatever sport they are playing" mind frame but luckily I am not. At least as of right now. And this is good because then I won't go in with a mentality of I am going to pick the opposite of whatever B says and just annoy the crap out of him (which happens when I am in that "I hate BC and everything about the school and I hope they lose in whatever sport they are playing". Part of the reason (in my humble opinion) is that we did not go to as many hockey and basketball games as in the past and there was no appearance by men's basketball in either the NCAAs or NIT (it is an off year to say the least). Also, the hockey team is headed to Denver for the Frozen Four (I love hockey, especially hockey, by the way and we attended a TON of hockey games when we first dated which I think helped us. I also want my son - not yet born, conceived, or in the works at all - to play hockey at BC because I really like the coach and the program. He doesn't let them curse and when they lost at the championship in 2006, they skated off the ice because they were upset. He then followed them into the tunnel and made them all get back on the ice to watch the other team celebrate, then shake their hands and finally to salute their fans. Classy - unlike some other Boston area coaches or coach rather. I love Jerry York. Especially when he talks because he has a THICK Boston accent when he talks that you don't expect. He also has that well-scrubbed face look that I love.) Anyway I really digressed there.

So the whole point of this post is to say I am not in the negative mindset and in fact I am hoping the BC Eagles win (they have lost in the championship game twice in the past two years).

Here is the goal that got them to the Frozen Four:

Also, here is a penalty shot by the Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalist Nathan Gerbe. There is no sound but it is a great goal.

Bring an open mind

We have Pre-Cana this weekend at BC. And while it seems like we made the arrangements months ago, it is here. I was fretting about what I had to bring but I guess it is minimal as the letter said all we need to bring is an open mind. We also need to dress "business casual". Funny - I wasn't concerned about a dress code but now I am.

We get lunch on Saturday (only a snack on Sunday. Well a snack and the eucharist but I wouldn't count the eucharist as a snack or anything really. It is what it is - the eucharist). I wonder what they will serve us and I wonder who the couples that talk to us will be. I tried googling some of the other people who will be attending with us and I only found one of the guys (a lawyer, older) before giving up. I guess I will just have to see who they are when we get there (no fun but whatever).

Blind Items: Vegas

Blind item #1: Which one of B's friends forgot to pack any underwear?

Blind item #2: Which pair of underwear do I hope never gets returned to B?

PS: BC Hockey in the Frozen Four again! Maybe the third time in a row is the charm?

Pre-Cana

So we booked our Pre-Cana (marriage preparation for all you heathens out there).

I was reading postings on the Knot (Boston area) and brides-to-be were talking about pre-cana and one mentioned about pre-cana at BC. So I started to look into it. Now some of you may know of my love/hate relationship with BC (date change, tournaments around my birthday, general sports malaise, the reunion fight) and may be shocked to hear that I was looking into BC but I was. I had a feeling it would be smaller, a bit more academic and geared towards more learning rather than just checking off a list item and calling it a day.

Another day I was looking at posts on pre-cana and BC came up again and one person was saying it fills up quickly and she can't go. So I went straight to panic mode and emailed the Office of Campus Ministry and inquired about pre-cana. So they have a class in April and she prefaced it by saying "but if you are interested please let us know right away because we fill up fast." So I filled out the form, B wrote a check, and we got our confirmation.

There is a 60/40 chance that I will be in "hate" mode at the time of the class which should make things very interesting. By April, we will have gone hockey, basketball, march madness, Mets baseball will have started and I bet you something comes up on my birthday that is BC related. The facilitators will probably wonder why we are even getting married.

Good times...

And they keep rising...

So because all of you care, the football team that caused the wedding to change dates has been doing quite well this year and keep rising in the polls. Below is a picture of my nephews (Thomas and Ryan) who were excited to wear their new t-shirts and at the time BC was only ranked 14th in the nation. I can only imagine the excitement they have in wearing the t-shirt of the #3 team in the nation.

Virginia Tech will be a tough game. I took the next day off of work. BC win=B happy=Me happy.

Away...

I am away this weekend. I will be in Atlanta visiting my brother, B's cousin and going to the BC/Georgia Tech football game.

B is right - I am the best fiancee in the world.

OK - The Story

Let me just say that moving the date was technically my idea. However, I was not enthusiastic about it.

Set scene: I at work preparing for a presentation to my new team. I email B about how nervous I am. The response is "BC is playing ND on 11/08/08. I am ok with it. I just wanted you to know." WTF?? He couldn't at least say "You will be fine" and then launch into the bad news. So I ask if the game is at BC. "Yes" replies. Crap.

As everyone has read, we just picked the date and the only sports thing we checked was the NYC marathon and expected World Series dates. B didn't think to check college football because the schedule is not set until the summer The one exception: the BC-ND series. These dates have been set for a few years now. So the two days of stress I just endured could have been avoided.

So after getting the email, I begin to panic. I was worried that we were getting married on a decent game weekend, not the most anticipated game at BC. So B tells me again that he is fine with it. And I suggest moving the wedding back a week. The date is meaningless to us so it is not a big deal. The problem is the annoyance factor. B suggests coming over to talk about moving the date. I email two-thirds of the vendors to see if they are free on the 15th. What is the point of talking about moving it? My thought was "Let's first see if it is possible and then decide." As I am contacting the vendors, I surprised at how I am handling it - much better than I imagine I would.

As luck would have it, all of our vendors are free on the 15th and no one had turned business for the 8th. We were able to keep all of the vendors we had booked and change the date with no costs incurred.

At this point in my relationship I have accepted B's obsession with sports, particularly the Mets and BC anything (we once went out to watch women's basketball while away for the weekend in NH). While I have accepted it at some level, it is an annoyance. I hate having to check sports schedules before I accept dinner/social invitations or make plans for us. And this is the ultimate example.

So now most of you may say why bother moving it. But knowing that all of his friends would be making comments about how they are not at the game (not just at the wedding but from now until years after) and then people would be checking phones for scores or trying to catch part of the game was also a factor. I just thought that if someone made a comment (even jokingly) about it on the actual day, I would probably cry. So instead of dealing with that or even just stressing out about the possibility of it, I moved the date. In the end it didn't cost us anything and now no one can complain about the game that they will miss that Saturday because it could have been worse.
